Gwen Graham for Lieutenant Governor of Florida
The ticket

Two people who want to help. That is the whole ticket.

David and I are two humans who want to do good for the people of Florida, and we care about them. I think people are going to feel that.

We were friends before we were a ticket.
How we met

We were friends before we were a ticket.

I met David when I served in Congress. We were on opposite sides of the aisle, and we were two of the four members of the mighty Florida Bipartisan Caucus. We met regularly and talked about ways we could work together to help Florida, and we stayed friends long after. He and Laura came to visit me when I served in the Department of Education.

He is a good human being. And, frankly, that is the number one quality we need in our leaders. It is not a Democratic trait or a Republican trait or an independent trait. It is a human trait. I just think the world of David.

The day I knew

I sat in the audience and I was blown away.

In Congress there is a lot of talking, and I had never really sat and listened to David speak until December of last year, in Sarasota and St. Petersburg. I said it publicly that day: in David, I felt a similar approach to my father. He has the ability to think through a policy and the knowledge to know where you can work inside the system to get something done for people.

David is, at his core, a policy person. That is a very good thing for Florida. You need a governor who actually understands how all of this works.

What a governing partner does

David told me he wanted a governing partner, not a name on a ballot, and that is what I intend to be. Dad always said he never understood why candidates for governor did not pick their lieutenant governor before the primary. This is a huge state. Two people can be in twice as many places, and people can see the team they are actually getting.

Every decision David and I make will be measured against one question: will this make a positive difference in people's lives? I have good friendships across the aisle in the Florida Legislature, and we will use every one of them to do a good job for the people of Florida. Yes, a campaign is a competition. But once you are elected, you do what the people sent you to do, and you do it together.
